Free TouchDesigner 2018.23470 Project: GPU Vertex Normals with Geometry Shaders (Landon Looper)
Original title: normals-gpu (Real-time GPU accelerated worldspace vertex normal computation techniques)
Overview
Landon Looper (loopervfx) shares normals_gpu.toe, a demonstration of world-space normal computation techniques with geometry shaders, created for a talk at TouchIn NYC in May 2018. Face normals and smooth per-vertex normals are recalculated on the GPU in a single shader pass, so a mesh such as the Stanford Bunny can be scaled non-uniformly, twisted and warped while keeping smooth surface lighting.
The README explains the method, which emulates common CPU techniques for triangulated meshes, and states that it was built in TouchDesigner 64-Bit Build 2018.23470. The file and its GLSL sources are a free direct download from GitHub under the MIT license.
