Free TouchDesigner Project: Web DAT API Request and JSON Parsing (CMU Reactive Spaces Course)

Overview

Jakob Marsico's Carnegie Mellon course Reactive Spaces and Media Architecture includes this tutorial on bringing web API data into TouchDesigner. It explains what an API endpoint and a JSON response are, then uses the Web DAT to send a GET request to a sample campus energy endpoint and store the reply in a text DAT.

Because the tutorial notes there is no built-in JSON parsing, td_json.toe includes a Python DAT that converts the response into usable data. The file is a free Google Drive download from the course's TouchDesigner Examples folder.
