Overview

Daniel Greenheck shares OpenFracture, an open source Unity package for fracturing and slicing meshes that supports convex and non-convex meshes as well as meshes with holes. Meshes can be fractured at runtime or pre-fractured in the editor, in 2D or 3D, with UV remapping along the cut edges, a custom inside material and recursive fracturing into smaller fragments.

Fractures can be triggered by triggers, collisions or a key press, run asynchronously and fire an OnCompletion callback, and slicing supports the same UV and material options. The package targets Unity 2021.1 or later, includes fracture, prefracture and slice demo scenes, and is free under the MIT license.
